Earlier this year, the L.A. Dance Project premiered Bach Studies (Part 2) at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris. Now, the Royal Ballet Flanders will perform Bach Studies in Antwerp, helmed by the French choreographer Benjamin Millepied. The performance, beginning May 19th, will see all the dancers perform wearing custom Ermenegildo Zegna XXX looks designed by Ermenegildo Zegna’s Artistic Director, Alessandro Sartori.

The collaboration on the performance wardrobe was driven by Sartori’s passion for the arts and the desire to work with his long-time friend Benjamin Millepied, co-founder of the L.A. Dance Project.

Design wise, the inspiration came from the purity of ecclesiastic dresses that worked well against Millepied’s choreography, balancing the bold with the delicate. Created in blends of silk and jersey, the fabrics complement the fluid movements. The lightweight fabrics used are deployed in a combination of black and off-white pleated skirts on top of leggings and roll necks.

Alessandro Sartori was ardent to say, “I adore working with Benjamin because I love his energy, his creative vision and his modern dance, which is based on his knowledge of classic dance. This is just like my work, blending craft and modernity. The silhouettes that we created with Benjamin for this ballet are made of new and tech materials, yet handmade and couture-constructed. Men and women are moving in beautiful ways, and the clothes complete the silhouettes like a fourth dimension. THEY FLY ON STAGE...  I love them”
