Wong Kar Wai for Saint Laurent: "A night in Shanghai"
by Issabella Lovazzano
Saint Laurent is using a new form of self-expressive modeling for its SELF 05 project, “A night in Shanghai.” This short film was created by Wong Kar Wai and is being directed by creative director, Anthony Vaccarello.
While maintaining its sharp appearance, Saint Laurent has put more of a spiritual intent into this project. “A night in Shanghai” presents that idea of balance between structured reality and the inspired reality each of these artists see through their own lenses. The video brings about the importance of individuality within our modern era. The film meshes creative outlooks on uniform city life with evocative ones, all portraying a mutual respect of unique imaginations.
Performance artist, Vanessa Beecroft and American Psycho screenwriter, Bret Easton Ellis are among the artists who have previously collaborated on the film series. This unique combination of individuals are used to illustrate the independent yet luxurious human creativity that Saint Laurent depicts.
Coming November 22nd, the film will be hosted by the Yuz Museum in the Shanghai Art District for two days.
