Weekend Recall | BJ The Chicago Kid at Official Barack Obama Blvd Unveiling

by Drew Penner

Last August, Los Angeles decided to rename a 3.7-mile stretch of Rodeo Road, between Jefferson Boulevard and Arlington Avenue, in honor of the first black president.

A block party was held Saturday, May 4, in the Baldwin Hills/Crenshaw neighborhood of South Los Angeles, where the newly-presidential street hits Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. It’s a nice intersection of heavy hitters. The location is where Obama held a key rally in 2007, as he shot up to Leader of the Free World status.

The party started at noon and included performances from Doug E. Fresh, Yo-Yo, Battlecat, Kurupt, Alex Isley, Gavlyn, T-Lyons, Baby S, DJ Tee, Verbs and Dj Qwesscoast, performing alongside BJ The Chicago Kid. As the new voice of R&B/Soul was set to perform we asked BJTCK to take us through his weekend recall at the Block Party. BJ's new single, "Time Today" is out now and his new album, 1123 will be released this summer.
