Thomas Demand presents his fourth exhibition in the London gallery, Sprüth Magers, on view until May 15, 2021. The exhibition features new large-scale photographic works by Demand and a selection from the latest iteration of his Model Studies series, focused on the atelier of the late fashion designer Azzedine Alaïa. Demand uses sculptural objects to convey a series of ideas, a means of making sense of information.

The German artist is known for creating life-size models with meticulous detail, then photographing, and destroying them. In Pond and Nursery, two new works on view, he contrasts our traditional notion of the natural world with the high tech realities of modern agriculture. The artificiality of the artificially made image showing an artificial production is emblematic of Demand’s practice—his innate ability to question his photographic truth.
