The Mclaren Diary
When I was a kid I used to steal my mom’s SL55 Mercedes and head to Hollywood after a brief stop to pick up friends and diet Red Bull. Once in clubland, we would run amuck in the strobe of lights of the last days of electro. We would wear the egregious outfits from thrift stores mixed with a touch of indie labels. It was a fond memory as it was also the first time I had a taste of my own controlled speed, racing through Sunset Blvd to head home and I would dash as fast and loud as I could. Years later, and I’d like to think I am still the same, albeit, the outfits got better.
When I got the chance to take over a McLaren 720S Spider last week, I was so excited to cruise and pose with this gentle beast. I gave her the adopted name of “Candy” for the week. I really indulged in the chance to rev the engine as I zoomed through Beverly Hills on Sunset Blvd once again. Within 2.8 seconds I would be humming along the boulevard at 60 mph, adrenaline pumping, yet cautious to the might of “Candy”. The actual drive was unparalleled to anything I’ve ridden due to Super Series dynamic performance and the gorgeous body that was lighter than air, thanks to the unique carbon fibre body structure. I spent all the time I had with “Candy” — top down and letting my hair flow in a perfect start to summer. With each lift of the suicide doors I evoked the spirit of a rapper in a full cinematic panning sequence, as well as that of all the socialite of my youth. As music is the most important component to maximizing the driving experience, I would like to present a little playlist to complement my diary to where I rode “Candy,” the McLaren 720S Spider.
The McLaren 720S Spider starts at $315,000
