The Culinary Creators Project Presented by Square | Dinner from Chef Kwame Onwuachi and John Cleveland
by Bree Castillo
This past Thursday, Square launched their newest dinner series, the Culinary Creators Project. The first dinner in the series included an extravagant dinner from renowned chefs John Cleveland and Kwame Onwuachi as well as a performance from Grammy-nominated artist Miguel. This project follows their current campaign, “The Future Needs Your Restaurant,” which supports businesses with technology to keep up with the ever-evolving demands of the food and dining world.
The dinner kicked off on Juneteenth at the landmark Los Angeles restaurant, Post & Beam. Nestled in Baldwin Hills, this community hotspot is representative of Square’s mission to support cutting-edge businesses and people. Square’s purpose-built software and ecosystem of commerce solutions assist complex and busy service operations, retailers, and restaurants like Post & Beam so they may save time and effort. Since their opening, Post & Beam has embodied Square’s values as they continue to be a tour de force in the Los Angeles culinary scene.
Guests at Post & Beam had the chance to witness a never before seen collaboration between Post & Beam resident Chef John Cleveland, and award-winning Food Network personality and Chef Kwame Onwuachi. At Post and Beam, Chef John Cleveland infuses southern-inspired flavors into classic California comfort foods. His specialty is integrating flavorful traditions while simultaneously saving the flavors of local ingredients.
Chef Kwame Onwuachi came into the spotlight when he appeared as a contestant on Season 13 of Food Network’s Top Chef. Since his time on the show, Kwame Onwuachi has gone on to win the 2019 James Beard Award as “Rising Star Chef of the year” and appear in the Forbes 30 Under 30 list.
Eager to share his talent and experience, Kwame Onwuachi has continued to succeed in the culinary world. In May 2022, he released his first cookbook, My America: Recipes from a Young Black Chef. Kwame has remained dedicated to mixing flavors with experiences so he may share the true diversity of American food with his readers. As Kwame said himself, “You can really get to know somebody by the food that they eat. You can travel oceans on a plate and identify someone’s culture and ingest it. It’s the only art form we ingest and also nourishes us at the same time.” Kwame’s words perfectly encapsulate the mission of Square’s campaign and dinner series. Through the Culinary Creators Project, Square is fostering a community of innovators that are leading the future of the food world.
