Spazio Amanita | Presenting the Inaugural Exhibition, 'I Do My Own Stunts'
by Vanessa Blasi
Spazio Amanita, a young contemporary art gallery based in New York, presents its first exhibition in Los Angeles, I Do My Own Stunts. Bringing together twenty artists including Cristina de Miguel, Mickey Lee, Ruby Neri, and Karyn Lyons, among others, Spazio Amanita sends a compelling message of female empowerment by begging the question: what do stunt performances and artists have in common?
Both stunt doubles and artists disguise the tireless effort, preparation, and skillset required to perform such perfect acts behind their flawless presentation. I Do My Own Stunts reveals the true ongoing behind-the-scenes process it takes to create, as well as acts as a powerful motto for female artists.
This exhibition recognizes that more often than not, men are cast to perform the dangerous stunts seen in TV/film rather than women. Straying away from this societal norm, this exhibition allows women to take full control in their artistic process, and “do their own stunts”. Celebrating a variety of different female painters, I Do My Own Stunts highlights an abundance of different artistic approaches, techniques, and painting perspectives.
Founded more recently in 2021, Spazio Amanita features some of the most distinguished rising artists. I Do My Own Stunts represents the importance in uplifting one another and continuing to encourage an open dialogue for influential voices to be heard.
I Do My Own Stunts is on view through Sunday, March 7th.
