SLAYYYTER Live at the El Rey Theater

by Christopher Andrew Armstrong

It was fit or flight Friday night at the El Rey as Los Angeles’s hippest, youngest, and most fashion-forward crowd gathered together for an evening dedicated to all things glam and fabulous.

Slayyyter, the electro-pop princess who gained fame on SoundCloud , played the biggest show of her young career with supporting help from Robokid.

Once Robokid took the stage, it became clear the audience came here to do two things, slay and dance. Which is what they did during Robokid’s highly caffeinated set.  Robokid, Slayyyter’s resident DJ who also moonlights as a songwriter, crooned out songs about Grindr and lost love.

Slayyyter, well, slayed with her sex-positive tracks about love, drugs, and Hello Kitty. She pranced back and forth across the stage with purpose and asked the audience if they were “high.” The room erupted in cheers signaling they were stoned from either drugs, love, or the open, safe space community Slayyyter creates during her sets.
