sadie | Hyper-pop Remix of Orchin's Song "My Wish"
by Jess Ferguson
sadie, Brooklyn-based songwriter and producer, remixed Orchin’s 2019 song “My Wish,” transforming the wistful, slower track into a danceable, hyper-pop banger. Lyrics like “Oh, how depression can last / When you wallow in a puddle and are surprised by the splash” are contrasted with bright synthy beats, putting new meaning and life to the original song. The repeated yearning, “I wish I wanted it back” and “I wish I had it all back,” threads the song together and is the emotional basis, in spite of the bouncy underlay. The track is out today, October 4 on streaming platforms.
“I discovered Orchin’s LP Serene in the early days of quarantine and immediately became obsessed with ‘My Wish.’ We started working on some songs together, and I asked him if he’d be OK if I remixed 'My Wish’ to play at my EP release show,” sadie said. “The original ‘My Wish’ was already a perfect song, and I’m so honored that Jeremy let me make it into a hyper-pop banger. We were joking that his version is the ‘LA version’ and mine is the ‘NYC version.’”
Earlier this year, sadie released her four-track debut EP, Nowhere, co-produced by Joe Valle of Wet and Maya Laner of True Blue and formerly Porches. sadie’s influences include Charli XCX, AG Cook, SOPHIE, Bjork, and Kate Bush. The Pigeons & Planes “Best New Artist” was met with acclaim from publications like the New York Times and Stereogum for her melancholic yet infectious tracks.
