Weekend Recall: Lauv

by flaunt

Lauv—the artist, producer, and songwriter based in LA by way of New York City—is a model of the new modes of music creation, distribution, and access. After a life spent honing his craft, playing multiple instruments and with multiple bands, he is now emerging on his own terms. His new single, “I Like Me Better,” recently swept the Spotify Global Top 50 Chart and Global Top 100 Artists, and racking up over 100 million streams on Spotify. It's not the first time that he's shot to the stratosphere with songwriting that sent the internet spinning—Lauv wrote his breakout track “The Other” while he was still a student at NYC, amassing over 100 million streams. With stats like that, who needs a label?

In addition to his booming artist career, Lauv’s recent songwriting cuts include tracks by Charli XCX, Cheat Codes, and Demi Lovato. He’ll be on tour with Louis the Child for select dates this fall. Lauv sat down and gave Flaunt the inside scoop of what a weekend in his life entails.

i woke up at my house in la and had some chocolate cheerios (!!! cause cheerios are tight and chocolate is obviously tight so had to try it when i saw it at the store) before working on some new music.

i make most of my songs at home cause i’m not a huge fan of fancy studios for writing. often times i start on piano or guitar and then produce the record out from there.

took a lil skate around the neighborhood when i needed a break.

flew to NYC to play billboard hot 100 fest. new york still has a lot of my heart because i went to college there and most of my songs were born there or are about my time in the city.
