The eternal question, “What would you do if you suddenly had an extra $10,000” has finally been answered by artist Dustin Yellin. For the upcoming Spring/Break Art Show, Yellin took an anonymous donor’s $10,000, ripped it up, and turned it into art—i.e. brown canvases covered in shredded bills. Whether the eight-piece series is brilliant, exorbitant, or just the result of the artist being on a time crunch, is basically irrelevant since he’s doing it for charity. The fair runs March 4-8 in Manhattan, and tickets are available on the website.
A LOVE AFFAIR WITHOUT BODIES
Artist Wei Li has just constructed TSA’s worst nightmare, and it comes in three different colors. Li’s latest collection, Encased, includes handcrafted leather suitcases that appear to have human bodies stashed inside. The fashion forward body bags are intended to capture the beauty of human anatomy. They were created by scanning figures to produce exact leather molds of the body resulting in what we can’t help but call a very CSI-chic carry-on.
VIOLENTLY HAPPY BUT YOU’RE NOT HERE
The MoMa in New York is granting the public an opportunity to perceive what really goes on in the mind of Bjork. The museum’s retrospective will contain sound, instruments, objects and costumes from the singer’s more than twenty-year career. The Icelandic Princess, who recently released her bone-chilling album Vulnicura, hopes to convince viewers to take her music as seriously as they do art. Dress in your finest swan dress and make sure to witness the extensive exhibit which is set to open March 8th.

Like it or not, the platitude “opposites attract” couldn’t be more true when it comes to Larry Clark and J. W. Anderson. The unexpected duo plan to release a collaborative book titled The Smell of Us through Document Journal this spring.The book follows the cast of Clark’s latest film as they roam the streets of Paris in J. W. Anderson outfits, styled by the young actors themselves. Expect Clark’s same raw, honest photography, only this time the subjects are wearing Anderson’s pre-fall collection instead of oversized tees and snap backs.

Tesla’s got nothing on Raul Lemesoff’s new tank. He transformed a 1997 Ford Falcon into a moving library with the help of soda company, 7UP. The project, entitled “Weapon of Mass Destruction,” is an effort to do just the opposite by spreading education and keeping print alive. Lemesoff takes his weekend ride through the streets of Argentina offering over nine thousand free books to the public, as long as they promise to read them. Doesn’t seem like such a bad gig with Hemingway riding shotgun and Salinger in the back.

Whoever said less is more clearly never witnessed Teebs’ animated paintings. It should come as no surprise that the artist is also a talented music producer, given his collage paintings which dance to their own rhythm atop the canvas—between chaos and order. The artist's solo show, Overgrown, will take place Saturday, March 14th at New Image Art Gallery, followed by an after party at Black Bar in Hollywood.

Kelela definitely did send a message—most likely to a soon to be ex—in her latest music video, “A Message.” In the simple and visually transfixing video, she slices off her dreads mid-way through, and then morphs into an emotive anime. The track, co-written and produced by Arca, is first of six in her upcoming Hallucinogen EP out May 5th.

Tinder Plus, released on Monday, allows users unlimited swipes, rewinds, and a “Passport” feature, that allows them to match with people around the world. Sounds a little like… every other dating app in the world. Except for one unapologetically ageist exception: Tinder plus costs $10 for users under 30 years old, and $20 for older users. Way to penalize an already marginalized group in the dating market, Tinder.

The Tzarina of fashion—Anna Wintour—has issued a command: no more babies at fashion week. Post-North’s tantrum at her Daddy’s fashion show collaboration with Adidas, Wintour has successfully banned babies from London Fashion Week, and is reportedly trying to do the same to New York Fashion Week. Kanye’s input? North was obviously just expressing concern for her father’s well being: “Maybe she was just scared for her daddy," he said. "She just wanted people to stop being mean to her daddy. Because she knows that her daddy loves the world and just wants to make it a more beautiful place."
