French artist Camille Henrot’s line drawings are bringing new life to Nicki Minaj’s iconic music video for “Anaconda”. Quite frankly, we couldn’t be more relieved to know that the list of works inspired by Minaj’s ode to ass won’t end at the Madame Tussaud’s wax figure, which caused a #PRshitstorm when it came to light that it was being degraded by tourists. The upsetting treatment of Minaj’s wax figure, and the disrespect it implies, is not unrelated to the impetus behind Henrot’s drawings: “I like to think she created Anaconda to evoke criticism. She has abused the typical ‘black music-video girl’ archetype to the very end, to catch attention and create hate--if only so we too can realise our aversion to the sexualisation of women.”

Born in Tanzania to a Ghanaian diplomat, Adjaye is now a hugely sought-after architect and designer, with over fifty completed projects across the globe and several exciting projects still in development. The creation of the National Museum of African American History and Culture, set to open this year as a wing in the Smithsonian, is a five hundred million dollar project of which Adjaye is at the helm. The Art Institute of Chicago will open the first comprehensive exhibit of Adjaye’s work, which will feature drawings, sketches, models, and mock-ups, on September 19th.

//TAME THE IMPALA, FREE THE SOUL//

The Belgian remix-master team Soulwax has dipped the tip of their Midas index onto the spinning grooves of the song “Let It Happen,” which was originally released by Tame Impala. At nine minutes and seventeen seconds, the electro-pop track—with a funky bass line—repeats the mantra "Let It Happen" over and over and eventually ventures off into deep space beyond the planets with which you and I are familiar.

You're making out. But you need music. Enter “Rotten Human,” the latest single from Youth Lagoon. The song is off the upcoming album Savage Hills Ballroomthat's going to be released on September 25th and that is, coincidentally, the day you and your match decide to take things to the next level.

//YOU OUGHT TO KNOW WHERE I’M COMING FROM//

Have you ever heard a song on the radio that you’ve listened to months before and experienced a burning desire for proof of your indie cred? A new feature on Spotify offers us undeniable graphics that let everyone know you listened to artists before they hit mainstream popularity. Visiting the Found Them First website will sync with your Spotify and scan your listening history. This tool will label the first 15% of listeners as “early listeners.” So, not only can you get a kind of virtual high-five for your keen sense of “cool,” but you can also gain access to the one-percent without oppressing minorities and the working class!

//A HUNDRED ENTREATIES EVERY MOMENT//

Drawing inspiration from history, literature, and religion, Pouran Jinchi creates "a visual vocabulary that inhabits the space between abstraction and calligraphy.” Jinchi creates landscapes that intertwine both text and sculpture. His exhibit, entitled Black and Blue, will be up throughOctober 14 at the Leila Heller Gallery in New York.

We imagine the British Fashion Council with coiffed pastel-colored hair á la Panem, sitting at an unreasonably long rectangular table made of glass and sifting through a pile of the most promising young designers and carefully making their selections for London’s Fashion Week Designer Showrooms. Among the selections, all of whom will be showcasing their collections in the Newgen Pop-Up Showroom between September 17th and 22nd, we’ve spotted several young designers who are also featured in our beloved CALIFUK issue. Brothers Ademo and N.O.S. of French hip-hop duo PNL (stands for, yep, Peace and Love) have been quietly taking the French-speaking world by storm, by a verbose, no-nonsense, trappy storm. Because our brains have been blown and are littered around the banlieue, all we can tell you for now is to watch the video for their single Dans Ta Rue (On Your Street), released today, from their upcoming second album Le Monde Chico.

Moonbow thief, a video by the experimental videomaker Sara Bonaventura, will be premiered at the Anthology Film Archive, for the AXW Film Festival on Sept 30th. Shot on VHS and Super 8 and digitally edited, the soundtrack originates from analog field recordings that have been digitally manipulated. “The title Moonbow thief suggests the failure of the logos, even if with a rainbow mask; a moonbow is rare and even more ephemeral than a rainbow from sunbeams,” says the filmmaker. A quote from the novel The Rainbow by D.H. Lawrence closes the spectacle, “If I were the moon, I know where I would fall down.”

After flaunting her new Puma Creeper collab all over town, Riri is finally giving us a chance to climb up to her neo-gothic style heights. The musician/model/force-of-nature’s newest kicks will be available locally at Shiekh Shoes in DTLA this Friday after a private reception featuring a custom perfume bar by Starring Fragrance and Coolhaus ice cream sandwiches.
