MODERATE MASOCHISM

Pop’s favorite bad girl, Sky Ferreira, has announced another film project—this time with her frequent collaborator, Grant Singer. The announcement comes on the heels of Ferreira wrapping up shooting Elvis and Nixon, and the film is apparently set to be released this summer. Ferreira and Singer are frequent collaborators; he directed the videos for “I Blame Myself” and “Everything is Embarrassing.” The project, for which they definitely can blame themselves, was described as “VERY cinematic” by Ferreira via Twitter.

GHETTO SUPERSTAR

Belgian artist Alice Smeets has given the classic tarot deck a makeover. Along with a community of artists from Port-Au-Prince, Haiti, Smeets recreated the classic Tarot scenes through photographing live subjects. Using rooftops, hillsides, and trash-lined streets the artists recontextualize the ghetto usually portrayed in poverty porn into a mesmerizing and supernatural space. Have your cards read and watch the making of the project here.

IT WAS THE BEST OF TIMES, IT WAS THE BLURST OF TIMES

We've definitely been spoiled. After twenty-six seasons, the cast of The Simpsons has, for the most part, remained intact, other than a few notable tragedies (RIP Edna Krabappel). That is, until this past week. Harry Shearer, voice of Mr. Burns, Mr. Smithers, and Principal Skinner, has confirmed via Twitter that he is leaving the show. His heartbreaking tweet read, "This because I wanted what we’ve always had: the freedom to do other work,”—a clear nod to some sort of contract dispute. It's hard to picture any of those characters leaving Springfield, except for Smithers maybe—in his case, it's just hard picturing him leaving Mr. Burns.

LIKE A PAINT PARTICLE BLOWING SOFTLY IN THE WIND

Those with their ears a-hovering just above the gritty pavement in Detroit may have caught wind of where famed street artist Shephard Fairey is preparing to execute his largest work to date. The 184-foot by 60-foot canvas has been confirmed for Detroit's Gratiot Avenue and Farmer Street sides of the Compuware Building at 1 Campus Martius. It will most likely coincide with the artist's visit to Detroit later this month for the Library Street Collective, where Fairey will be putting in some face time for his show PRINTED MATTERS opening May 22. Meanwhile, New York street artists How and Nosm are also set to paint a mural of the superlative kind in Motor City, set to take the title for the world's tallest mural over the coming months.

MOUTH WHERE MY MIND IS

If there’s one person whose head it might be best to stay out of, it’s Vincent Van Gogh’s (at least if you value your ears). Stepping into the heads of the people in his paintings, though, is an entirely different proposition. A new Samsung virtual reality headset, lets users take tours of Van Gogh’s paintings. Don a pair of futuristic goggles, and step into The Night Cafe. If you’re having trouble imagining how exactly one could step into a painting, just watch this super cool vid, that demonstrates what it’s like to chill in a Van Gogh painting home.

CULTURE COLLIDE

With a sold-out 2011 exhibition at L.A. Louver under his belt, Japanese-American graffiti artist Gajin Fujita will soon return to that same Venice Beach gallery for his long awaited followup show entitled GAJIN FUJITA: WARRIORS, GHOSTS, AND ANCIENT GODS OF THE PACIFIC. The Far East meets Eastside with Fujita’s blend of traditional Japanese artistic subjects with a street art aesthetic. Fujita’s new works promise to be large-scale explosions of color, narrative, and form, and will be on view from May 27—July 2. Until then, you can revel in the intricacy of Fujita’s process with this exhibition trailer.

MIRROR MIRROR ON THE WALL

The 90’s aren’t just alive in Portlandia, they’re also alive in Hollywood. The 1996 cult classic, The Craft, is getting a 21st century makeover by horror filmmaker Leigh Janiak. The film centers on four teen girls who discover witchcraft. And even if you don’t believe in the magic of a remake, the dark purple lipstick and adorable schoolgirl outfits could bewitch the most hardened skeptic. Watch the trailer for the original here.

BUT FIRST, LET ME TAKE A SELFIE

Leave it to Andy Warhol to be the king of selfies long before it was cool. This week, a collection of the pop art legend’s rarely seen Polaroid self-portraits found their way on eBay for auction. A collaboration with Sotheby’s, the set of 12 snaps shows the artist in drag sporting a variety of different wigs and a ruby red pout. The entire collection only will set you back only about $70,000—$90,000. Pocket change, really. Also up for grabs are Warhol’s portraits of Liza Minnelli, Diana Ross, and Bianca Jagger.

#FREETHENIPPLE FAIL

While covering the news record-breaking sale of Pablo Picasso’s Cubist masterpiece “The Women of Algiers (Version O)” (1955) for $179 million at Christie’s this week, New York’s Fox 5 News made its own headlines for blurring the nipples of the nude courtesan depicted in the famous painting. The censorship enraged art lovers, and sparked the rapidly growing trend #FreeTheNipple on Twitter.

SOMETIMES I FEEL LIKE PUTTING ON A BLAZER

The Queen of Daytime, Ellen Degeneres just announced that she will soon be embarking on a brand new endeavor—her very own fashion line. ED by Ellen will include her signature brand of casual and comfortable women’s wear, accessories, and home goods. Available online starting mid-June, the prices will range from $45-400. Look out for the this style icon’s attention to detail with word  “Love” stitched into jackets and little  “E’s” embossed on buttons. No word on whether or not the line will feature the comedienne’s signature blazers, though.

DAT POLISH THO

Watch out, Sephora! Swedish powerhouse fashion retailer, H&M announced this week that they will start carrying an average of exhaustive line 700 new cosmetic products including lipsticks, hair products, bronzers, and nail polish in 900 stores worldwide and online this fall. No word yet on future collaborations, we're crossing our fingers so hard for Lorde's signature vampire lips.

BAD GIRL GONE GOOD

Our beloved Riri just got even more badass, as if that was even possible. The “Umbrella” singer is now the latest in a long line of Hollywood it-girls-turned-Dior-muses. She joins the ranks of Charlize Theron, Natalie Portman and Marion Cotillard as the face of the French fashion house for the their latest marketing campaign and stars in a short film where she struts her stuff up down the halls of Versailles donning the chicest threads. The short premieres May 18. Until then, you check out the goddess in action slaying the film’s trailer here.
