Midsommar x The Haxan Cloak

Ari Aster, the genius behind 2018’s horror film Hereditary, is set to release another film titled, “Midsommar” on July 3rd. The film got inspiration from Swedish folklore and follows married couple Dani and Christian as they navigate through their struggling marriage. After facing a tragedy, the two decide to join friends to a trip to a midsummer festival in a remote Swedish village; with Aster as the director, let’s just say that this isn’t going to be your typical family vacation.

As film fanatics, we all know that a movie is nothing without its music; and with Hereditary’s eerie original soundtrack, it should come to no surprise that Aster chose none other than Bobby Krlic aka The Haxan Cloak to produce the score for Midsommar.

The entire score to Midsommar was completed by Krlic himself—who’s a British musician/producer. Krlic also scored a number of other TV shows and films including: Almost Holy, Michael Mann’s Blackhat, Netflix’s Seven Seconds and USA Network’s Shooter. In addition, “Krlic was also responsible for the music that exists within the narrative of the film itself, the music that the characters play and sing inside the film.”

Aster himself wrote the entire script of Midsommar to Krlic’s music. "Trying to live up to the expectations of a director who wrote the script to my music was an intimidating task," says Krlic. "But in the end I believe it’s been the most rewarding and deeply educational experience I’ve ever had. Not only was working with Ari Aster an honour, but the work was a true collaboration.”
