Laine Neil | Strange Angel
by Cayla Rubin
There is nothing strange about Strange Angel actress Laine Neil’s road to becoming a star. Laine recounts that she’s, “wanted to act ever since [she] was a little kid.” A Nashville native, raised half of her life in Florida and half in Santa Barbara, Laine made the move to Los Angeles as the age of 17 to pursue her professional acting career. Now 25, Laine is thriving as a series regular on the ery CBS science fiction production Strange Angel.
Waiting tables at night and going to auditions during the day, Laine is the definition of what she describes as having the “typical LA actor story”. She now feels eternally grateful for her first big role. She says the experience acting on Strange Angel has been, “honestly, incredible!” She, “feels really lucky and spoiled with the cast and crew involved. Everyone was so supportive, funny and everyday [she] had so much fun on set.”

While talking with Laine I could deeply feel the positivity she radiates forth into the world, even through our spotty cell phone connection. She is the living embodiment of the saying, “shoot for the moon, even if you miss, you'll land among the stars.” Only in the beginning stages of her acting career, she expressed her dreams to one day direct and write.

Her hopes of one day writing stems from her love of books. When I asked her what she likes to do in her free time, along with listening to David Bowie and Neil Young, reading was at the top of the list; “I read a lot. I love Haruki Marukami, I've read probably 5 of his books - I just finished his latest short story collection. I'm a big fan of Nobokov as well, Mark actually recommended Laughter In The Dark to me and I used that as research for my character on Strange Angel because I felt like the two girls were very similar.”

When I asked Laine what we should expect next from her she articulated that, “Your guess is as good as mine! I think that I'm definitely in an interesting place right now. I feel so lucky to have this part as my first big part. She's so dynamic and layered. She does some things that people may not agree with but I think that you can always see where she's coming from on a human level. I feel like this will set me up to do hopefully all of the things that I’d ideally like to do, but we shall see!”
Anyone who has seen her act knows that big projects are in store for this timeless actress. If the opportunity hasn’t arose for you to watch her fearlessness on screen, here is your wake up call. Go binge watch Laine Neil on the Strange Angel before the breathtaking season two finale this Wednesday on CBS
