Jaime Xie took the fashion world by storm when she appeared in the first season of Netflix’s Bling Empire in January 2021. Peak-pandemic, the world sat glued to their screens, enthralled by the lives of some of LA’s wealthiest Asian friends, filled with equal measures of opulence and drama. Xie stood out for her sartorial choices, be it a couture number or an electric blue feathered mini courtesy of The Attico. Not one to follow trends blindly, 24-year-old Xie’s (multiple) wardrobes from which she pulls are home to a dream array of pieces; vintage and current, comfortable and couture, almost always unique. Her Instagram can attest to the distinctiveness of her style—glimpses of Dior Fall 2003 pieces and Versace Spring 2005 Menswear fuel her feed, sustaining fashion fanatics until Xie once again graces streaming screens, expectedly dressed to the nines.

Ahead of the season two release on May 13, Flaunt spoke with Xie about what to look forward to this time around, the thrill of dressing up, collaboration in the styling process, and—of course (for those attuned to her ‘gram)—her love of all things sweet.

How are you feeling about Bling Empire season two coming out so soon? What are you  most excited for people to see throughout the season?

I think people will get to know me a bit better. I’m curious to see what ends up making the final cut, as we filmed quite a bit this season, and not everything will make it in. Of course, the part I’m most excited about is  for people to see the fashion and outfits, since that is my true passion. I styled myself while we were filming, and it’s been my favorite thing to do since I was a little girl. I purchased so many great pieces during COVID that I never got to wear, so it was amazing to finally be able to wear some pieces during filming. I also had fun with my nails and glam this time, as I think they are very important aspects that can make or break a look. I am also very excited for people to see all the fun and crazy things Anna and I did together. We quickly developed a friendship and always had the best time together, both on and off camera, so I’m very glad I got to know her more.

The show was obviously lauded for its all-Asian cast; what’s it like to be part of such a history-making piece of television?

It’s amazing to be a part of something like this. I feel very passionate about supporting Asian representation on small screens and big screens across the world, and I hope this is just the  beginning.

Having wrapped the second season of Bling Empire, you’re back to immersing yourself in  the fashion world. What are you most excited about in the fashion realm at the moment? What’s your favorite thing about working with your stylist, Law Roach? How did this  collaboration come about?

I really missed dressing up, traveling, and life being “normal,” so it’s exciting that events, shows, and parties are all happening again in the fashion world.

I started working with Law last September for my first Venice Film Festival, and it’s been a great collaboration. Law and I both deeply love fashion and have similar tastes, so he can oftentimes read my mind when it comes to the designers and looks I gravitate towards. I also have a deep love and appreciation for vintage, and Law helped me take this passion to another level. He’s helped source several special gowns and pieces that I feel so incredibly honored to wear.

As someone so well-versed in the fashion space—and used to styling yourself—how do you accept and juggle someone else’s input?

In the beginning, I was hesitant to work with a stylist because I have so much fun styling myself. Law and I work very collaboratively, and he respects my opinions and tastes which is  something I greatly appreciate. He was very quick to understand my style which makes working together much easier from the get-go. I like to think of him as my older brother in fashion since we are so in tune.

You’ve been wearing a lot of vintage pieces as of late. How do you find delving into the archives differs from wearing newer designs?

Vintage is my favorite and I love delving into the archives. I have always found it more interesting to wear a piece of fashion history than something current. Of course, I love new designs too, but there’s something I find so special about vintage. Perhaps it’s the feeling of spending hours scouring boutiques and online sites to find something you love. When you finally find it, it feels like you’ve discovered hidden treasure! I always make time for a little vintage shopping wherever I am. Whether that’s in LA, Paris, Tokyo, or London, you never  know what you may come across!

What pieces in your wardrobe—or wardrobes—best reflect you as a person?

I would say my Rick Owens, Balenciaga, and Mugler pieces reflect the cool, edgy, and fashion side of me. Then you have my Lululemon joggers, hoodies, and APL sneakers that reflect my casual, everyday side. I love to dress up in full glam to go out, attend events, and for shoots;  but I also equally love being comfy and casual on my days off when I’m running errands or going to Erewhon.

You notoriously have a sweet tooth, and have shared plenty of videos of your fave deserts with your Instagram followers. What’s been your go-to sweet treat as of late?

I enjoy almost all vegan and gluten-free sweets! LA cafes and places like Erewhon do a really good job of making super yummy and healthy vegan treats. I eat like a kid and go through phases where I will be obsessed with one food, eat it until I’m sick of it, then onto the next. My current go-to sweets are cookies and brownies.

Aside from scouring the dessert aisle at Erewhon, what do you like to do to switch off and  unwind in your free time?

I love to do Pilates, go on walks, bake, and cook when I have free time and want to unwind and relax. I also call my mom each night and really enjoy talking and facetiming with my  family because I am so grateful to be close to them. Every day, I feel so fortunate knowing they are always there for me and just a phone call away.

What’s next for Jaime Xie?

I want to get more into modeling and acting. I have been taking lessons, so when the opportunity presents itself, I can hopefully be ready to take on the challenge. I have also thought about creating a healthy, vegan, gluten-free, refined-sugar free dessert company. I feel like there aren’t enough super yummy and tasty sweets out there that fit people with certain dietary restrictions. I never like to limit myself in terms of possibilities and believe that everyone should go after where their passion lies so who knows exactly where you’ll see me next. Although, I do know for certain, I will always be a part of the fashion industry because it is my biggest passion.
