Hublot | Shepard Fairey's New Classic Fusion Aerofusion Chronograph All Black

Contemporary street artist Shepard Fairey and luxury watch company Hublot collaborated for a limited-edition, all-black timepiece exclusive to North America. The piece combines the classic opulence from Hublot’s timepieces and the modern, artistic vision from Fairey (founder of OBEY Clothing) to put a spin on the Classic Fusion with the Mandala as a centerpiece and layered, monochromatic details cased in all-black ceramic.

The piece launched at Delilah in Los Angeles and featured appearances from people including actor and comedian Jeremy Piven, entrepreneur Dee Murphy, musician Masego, DJ Z-Trip, and artists Vic Hovsepian and David ‘Rabi’ Torres. The event continued the moody design of the timepiece by displaying custom Mandala projections and Moroccan-inspired lanterns.

This isn’t the first time Hublot and Fairey have collaborated; most recently with another Mandala-centric Classic Fusion timepiece in 2020. How has your relationship with Hublot evolved over the years since first partnering in 2018?

Hublot has been gracious to work with me and many other artists also dedicated to their craft. It’s incredible working with Hublot on limited edition pieces that combine the intricate details of my artwork with their watchmaking precision.

How does your work's ethos align with that of Hublot and how do you hope this comes across?

I find that watchmaking is a work of art in itself, which is why I feel our partnership has been a natural fit. Hublot and I both believe in taking risks with bold graphic designs.

What makes this timepiece stand out from your previous collaborations with Hublot?

In revisiting our design for this North American exclusive, there was a great focus on the Mandala—a recurring theme of my work and an ongoing source of inspiration, as the centerpiece of this timepiece’s face. We took the Mandala’s distinctive shape and married it with the Hublot signature All Black ceramic for a look that fuses our respective visions together.
