Speeding up the highway on the PCH at night there was a magical glimmer as excitement took over at the thought of a weekend finally unwinding at the Hideaway Santa Barbara. The lowkey Inn is a great response to the local offerings that seemed either too generic or playing too hard into the seaside lux appeal. The newest gem in the Kirkwood Collection, The Hideaway offers nine-rooms of effortless chill that was a blend of it’s 1908 Cali craftsmen roots meets modern farm house chic. Upon arriving I was greeted with a glass of Prosecco and oatmeal cookies, a perfect combo to begin my stay.

The Hideaway’s clean and minimal space has a warmth that was matched with a light nautical Americana that was so very much part of the California coastal appeal. It made me feel like I was a journalist from a bygone era on a road trip searching for meaning, instead I found myself escaping LA and the non stop social calendar that had kept me dehydrated every night of the past few months. Most of my time there was spent in lounging in the suite’s sitting areas and daybeds which was quiet conductive to finally cracking through my writers block, finishing up a book that was stashed away for the last 3 months, and finding space for a mental check that involved a Shavasana/Siesta.

In daylight a peak over the balcony offered up glimpses of historic neighboring Fernald Mansion as a well as the glorious views of the Santa Ynez Mountains. A 3 block walk to the beach provided a wonderfully grounding experience as the crisp coastal winds and scents worked delicately against the waving waters which rounded out the beach fantasy I had painted in mind and seen glisten.
