Givenchy X ONITSUKA TIGER: MEXICO 66 GDX Sneaker

by Tyler Mazaheri

In the midst of their 2019 menswear show, Givenchy debuted their first-ever partnership with an outside sneaker manufacturer at a global scale. Created in collaboration with one of the oldest Japenese shoe manufacturers, Onitsuka Co., Ltd., the “MEXICO 66 GDX” is a play off the NIPPON MADE ‘Mexico 66’ heritage style, bringing together “Japanese leather-working know-how and couture savoir-faire” in perfect harmony. The sneaker comes offered in two variations: “an all-white version with the brand’s hallmark dynamic ‘Onitsuka Tiger stripe’ lines and ‘Givenchy’ lettering, and a black version with signature Givenchy details in red and white.” This monochromatic reinterpretation takes Givenchy’s Clare Waight Keller’s closet staple and enmeshes it into her first standalone menswear show in Florence, ideated around the idea of Light in Darkness.

On June 13th, the day after the runway reveal, both versions of the shoes will be immediately available for purchase at Onitsuka Tiger and Givenchy flagship stores worldwide and online through givenchy.com (+ selected social media) at the price for $550 USD.
