FLAN x The Laughing Cow | Limited Edition Collaboration

Luxury brand FLAN has teemed up with The Laughing Cow to commemorate the iconic snack brand’s 100 year anniversary. In a sportswear themed collection, FLAN pays homage to The Laughing Cow’s popular semi-soft cheeses.
This unexpected partnering is in line with FLAN’s tradition of combining colorful and unique palettes with functional and comfortable designs. The collection includes 5 t-shirts, a vinyl hoodie, shorts and pants, fleece sweatpants, and a polo jersey, which are all made of 100% organic fabric. The pieces are indicative of FLAN’s goal to incorporate food into high fashion.
To mark the collaborative designs, the FLAN logo is included inside the ear tags of The Laughing Cow mark. The collection is highlighted with blue diagonal stripes, inspired by The Laughing Cow’s packaging. One signature piece is a soccer kit, which is branded with a 100 as a nod to the snack brand’s 100 year milestone.
Flaunt spoke with Peter Sholley and Jared Vinik of FLAN about developing the collection in collaboration with The Laughing Cow.
What drew you towards The Laughing Cow and made you want to work together?
We keep a strong emphasis on enthusiasm and positivity—it’s in our DNA! After all, we’re Forever Laughing At Nothing (FLAN) so The Laughing Cow, with their logo of a cow blissfully smiling, has always been of interest to us. Many of us on the FLAN team grew up eating The Laughing Cow’s silver wrapped cheese slices, so the chance to collaborate with them for such a historic moment in their brand’s history feels incredible and a perfect union.
What are some of your favorite pieces of the new collection?
It’s hard to choose since we love the whole collection so much, but we’d have to say the soccer jersey and shorts. The organic pique cotton we sourced worked perfectly, and we’re quite proud to have brought the release in such a direction. Although the diagonal stripe vinyl pants would have to be a close second.
Where did the attraction to food and marrying it with clothing come from?
It spawned from a genuine love of food and a belief that food and fashion are core tenets of all societies. Food unifies us, but also highlights ways in which each culture is unique. Clothing does the same. It felt like such a rich territory to explore from an artistic standpoint, and as FLAN has developed, this belief and curiosity has only grown stronger.
The new collection is made out of 100% sustainable fabrics. Was that something you knew you wanted to be committed to from the start?
This is something we have been working towards over the past 18 months, when we switched all of our production to Portugal. Sustainability is a core tenant of The Laughing Cow brand, so it only made sense to produce the entire collection with 100% sustainable fabrics.
What's one of your dream food collaborations you'd like to work on?
This is a tough one! A lot of places come to mind as a food-obsessed brand. One answer has to be Shake Shack, it’s been a staple for many members of the team since we first moved to New York, and would be amazing to collaborate on an apparel / limited-edition menu item.
We could go on. Noma in Copenhagen to make something experimental… Cheez-Its because there is always an open box in our office... Sweetgreen because most members of the FLAN team are approaching 30 and have recently become kale enthusiasts… Come back to us in a week, and we’ll probably have a whole new set of answers!
