Elsewhere Brooklyn | Summer Landscape
by Morgan Vickery
Elsewhere is the Bushwick-based 24,000+ square foot music venue, nightclub & art space. With creative risk-taking and new wave music programming, Elsewhere has created an inclusive community of diverse Brooklynites. A year and a half post grand reveal, and the immersive, multimedia experience continues to evolve— especially with its arts initiative dubbed 'Landscape.'
Curated by Elsewhere's Art Director, Molly Surno, Landscape transcends the traditional gallery model, encouraging interactions with the art patronage. Seasonal performances, installations, and commissions lead the art initiative with unique, burgeoning local, and international art contemporaries.
The summer season of Landscape features multimedia works by Bread Face, Zoe Burke, Dani Bonnet, Grace Miceli, and gloflo, with a curated selection of films by Candace Moeller. Upon the loft art zone entrance, you're immediately confronted with a scent, igniting senses of pleasure, playfulness, and uncertainty. Elsewhere's first year-long Artist in Residence, perfumer Marissa Zappas, is responsible for the olfactory exposures, altering the scents to accompany the seasonal works.
"The 'Landscape' art program is designed to encourage our audience to have casual and spontaneous interactions with art. By showcasing a diverse range of emerging artists, you will inevitably be confronted with new ideas, materials, and visual experiences through a range of installations and commissions. Each season I select a series of artists to take over a section of the building, creating somewhat of an "exquisite corpse" where slowly each corner of the structure will house an artists' intervention." -Molly Surno
On view until October 2019, Landscape is the new creative hub to unwind at— so wander onto the L train and into Elsewhere's summer wonderland.
