DRAMA | CRSSD Festival + Chapter One Records Photo Diary

by Jess Ferguson

CRSSD Festival, set at San Diego’s Waterfront Park, was September 24 and 25 and featured electronic artists like DRAMA, Jamie xx, Fatboy Slim, Duck Sauce, Fred again, Caribou, Sonny Fodera, and ARTBAT. The biannual festival took place across three stages with unique experiences—Ocean View, The Palms, and City Steps.

As part of the festival, LA’s Chapter One Records held a pop-up shop with an offering of new, old, and rare records. R&B duo DRAMA, one of the performers from the Saturday set known for tracks like “You’ve Done Enough,” “Billy,” and “Nobody,” did a little crate-digging in their downtime.

Here are the records Na’el Shehade and Via Rosa picked out:

The Wolfpack by Various Artists

“So I picked The Wolfpack because my friend used to be in a band called The Wolfpack and they had a song called ‘Vans’ and they talked about, you know, ‘got my Vans out, but they look like sneakers,’ and I have Vans on today, so I thought it was really appropriate. I've actually never heard this record before, but I'm excited to check it out now.” - Via

Up In Flames by Caribou

“Caribou is amazing. I don't know too much about this album in particular, but I love all the music that I've heard by them in the past. So I grabbed this one as a knee-jerk reaction.” - Via

Hounds of Love by Kate Bush

“Kate Bush is such a huge inspiration. Hounds of Love is a great record, I think ‘Running Up That Hill’ is one of the greatest records written of all time. So I couldn't help but to grab that one! She's just amazing—she's a legend.” - Via

xx by The xx

“I picked The xx because I'm a huge fan of Jamie xx and his production. I think his sound is next level. I listened to many of their records before the start of DRAMA. I liked how they came up and how they are perceived in the music industry. Big records without the baggage if that makes any sense. I dig them.” - Na'el

Random Access Memories by Daft Punk

“Daft Punk is probably one of my favorite, if not my favorite, groups of all time. They played a big part in my musical journey for sure. They got me DJing around 11 or 12 years old. The first piece of vinyl I ever bought was Homework. It was love at first listen. The drums, the sequencing, the bass, basically everything they did was next level, and I wanted to be just like them. I tend to go back and listen to their projects often before working on something for inspiration; they're great.” - Na’el
