Dior | Cruise 2023

by Frankie Benkovic

Dior traveled to Seville, Spain to showcase their 2023 Cruise Collection. The 110-piece collection took place on the Plaza de España. Artistic Director Maria Grazia Chiuri said the inspiration behind her designs was famed Spanish flamenco dancer, Carmen Amaya, who she says was a "revolutionary artist of extraordinary deeds, who through the gesture of dance combines strength and fragility."

To bring this collection to life, Chiuri collaborated with local artisans to showcase the detailed craftsmanship of the region. She worked with Orfebrería Ramos, who uses metalworking techniques to make the jewelry displayed throughout the collection. For hats, Chiuri worked with Fernández y Roche to create hats that resembled traditional Spanish equestrian garbs.

In addition to keeping the collection close to its Seville-inspired roots, Chiuri worked with Javier Menacho Guisado to reimagine the Dior Saddlebag using embroidery methods unique to that region.

Maria Grazia Chiuri carefully curated a collection that brought together the influence of Spanish techniques and craftsmanship with a French sense of fashion.
