Dior Beauty | Backstage with Peter Philips for Dior’s Spring 2023 Men’s Capsule Collection

For the Dior Spring 2023 Men’s Capsule Collection by Kim Jones guest designed by ERL (Eli Russell Linnetz) the inspiration came from a baby blue concoction of punk, surf, and the digitalization of anime into reality. The Creative and Image Director for Dior Makeup, Peter Philips created and styled a look that effortlessly envelops the spirit of the punk-like archetypes meeting the effortless breeze of Venice.

With the subtleties and softness of the Sping ‘23 beauty looks, Philips shares that “healthy looking skin is all you need actually.” The holy trinity of care–Capture Totale Super Potent Serum, Capture Totale Creme, and Capture Totale Super Potent Eye Serum were used to create Dior’s signature soft and hydrated glow. For an effortless complexion, Dior Backstage Face & Body Primer 001 Universal, Dior Backstage Face & Body foundation, newly cult favorite Dior Backstage Face & Body Flash Perfector Concealer, and talc free and purely pigment Dior Backstage Face & Body Powder-no-Powder were blended on the face for a long-wearing and skin-like finish. Finishing touches included brows that were expertly groomed with Diorshow Kabuki Brow Styler and Diorshow On Set Brow and Rouge Dior Velvet Balm 000 Diornatural on lips for a soft and blurry effect.

With the unity of the look, Philips shares, “It is always teamwork, when i create the look it is between style, hair, and makeup.” As if on cue, British hairstylist Guido Palau walks by. Sharing the same sentiments, Palau says, “We work together so much, we are so instinctive.” Together they create a digitalized version of the essence of their anime and manga inspirations and portray a graphic way of showing movement, almost as if is frozen in place.

With the height and color of the hair, embellished sweaters, and chunky sneakers on the runway, Philips finds sweet harmony, bridging together the 90’s skate motifs and the anime aesthetics of the Dior Spring 2023 Capsule Collection with his evergreen and verdant look. In creating any look, Philips shares what he believes is most important: “to know when to step back.” He continues, “One of the tricks that I always have, or it is more philosophy. I have makeup kit, and there is one little container for nothing. If there are too many cooks in the kitchen then it will lose something. There should always be a resting point.” Amongst the noise and pandemonium that is found in the heart of Venice, Dior’s beauty look is our elegantly grounding constant. Philips concludes, “Somewhere in the look there has to be a moment of quiet.”
