Desert 5 Spot | A Taste of the Desert in Hollywood

by Olivia Novato

Inspired by 1970s Palm Springs and vintage Western adventure, Desert 5 Spot comes as a welcome addition to Hollywood nightlife, complete with live music and a sprawling view of the Hollywood Hills and Downtown L.A. The Ten Five Hospitality-operated rooftop lounge sits atop the new tommie Hollywood hotel, which places authenticity, originality and convenience top of mind.

At tommie, guests can enjoy the more than 15,000 square feet of space to enjoy food and drinks, from KA’TEEN, celebrated chef Wes Avila’s restaurant, and of course, Desert 5 Spot.

The Western-inspired bar offers a rotating calendar of live musical performances and DJs, catering to both the country-loving and those who’re a little more rock-n-roll.

For Sebastian Puga, the EVP of Brand Experience and Partner at Ten Five Hospitality, the magic of the lounge—and other Ten Five venues for that matter—is the electric group of people they attract, while being culturally programmed around certain themes.

What is special about Desert 5 Spot as it relates to Hollywood and the imagination the city is famous for?

With Desert 5 Spot, we used our imagination and were inspired by Joshua Tree hideouts, throwback roadside motels and cosmic Americana. Much like a movie, we want to transport our guests to the Desert and beyond, all whilst being hyper-aware of its Hollywood location with views across the city. Our guests at Desert 5 Spot are immersed into a world of the eccentric charm of Pioneertown, with delicious cocktails and live country music & DJs—we’re a little country, a little rock n roll.

What's exciting about the nightlife scene in Hollywood’s Vinyl District at present?

From French Riviera-inspired Bar Lis to Desert 5 Spot, each Ten Five venue is culturally programmed around art, film, and music. We host events with galleries, museums, film studios, and music labels weekly which helps to attract an eclectic group of people. Our unique venue concepts and musical direction have established the Wilcox and Selma intersection of Hollywood into a hospitality and nightlife destination.
