Christo’s Nature/Environments is on view now at Galerie Gmurzynska US until December 31st and includes work spanning from 1968-2013. Known for his larger than life environmental installations, the show is a celebration of New York city and the late artist’s relationship to it, as well as other significant sites in the United States during the half-century that Christo lived and worked in America.
The show features a series of preparatory collages for The Gates (Project for Central Park, NYC) , a project that was originally written off by New York officials, only to be approved twenty-six years later in 2005. On display for only sixteen days, it remains a strong and well-known example of Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s large scale, site-specific, transient work. Nature/Environments will be running in conjunction with Nature/Environments at Galerie Gmurzynska Zurich, which showcases Christo’s European works.
