Cha Cha Matcha in Los Angeles

by Talulah Brown

Cha Cha Matcha will be opening its first ever café outside of New York City in West Hollywood, Los Angeles on December 7th, 2018. The store’s founders, Matthew Morton and Conrad Sandelman, decided to expand to LA following major success in their Manhattan locations. The cafés exude a laid-back vibe, cool aesthetic, and most importantly, serve high-quality, authentic matcha. To celebrate their expansion to the West Coast, the brand will also be debuting a special collaboration with renowned designer Virgil Abloh, who is a regular customer in their New York shops, and as a result decided to work with Cha Cha Matcha to design exclusive VA x Cha Cha Matcha sweatshirts and t-shirts. The merchandise will be available for purchase exclusively at the new WeHo location. Additionally, Abloh also designed Cali-inspired collateral (i.e. cups, napkins, bags, etc.) in the brand’s signature pink and green for their West Coast locations, decked out with palm trees and a cheeky phrases.

Matthew Morton and Conrad Sandelman developed Cha Cha Matcha, after a trip to Uji, Japan. Inspired by the people, passion and warmth of the destination, the duo decided to open a matcha shop that embodied their New York sensibility while staying true to the stateliness of Eastern tea practices. Using tea leaves straight from Uji, they developed unique recipes to showcase these new, exciting flavors. Cha Cha Matcha has three locations in New York and will be opening a second store in 2019 in Venice Beach, California following its WeHo debut.
