Brandon Maxwell is the designer behind immaculate ensembles worn by Lady Gaga, Michelle Obama, Meghan Markle, and many other brilliant and powerful women. His luxury women’s label, Brandon Maxwell, has been illuminating red carpets and fabulous parties since 2015, serving looks that are classic and elegant.
Now, prior to the presentation of the Brandon Maxwell Spring 2019 show, Maxwell is inviting fashion-fans everywhere in on his process. Along with his fiancé, Jessy Price, Maxwell has filmed a documentary following him and his team while they design his new spring collection. As a part of the method, Maxwell and co. traveled to his home state of Texas where they spent a month immersed in the art-centric city of Marfa. The documentary displays Brandon Maxwell in an intimate fashion while he interviews Marfa artists and births his newest creation.

Brandon Maxwell’s documentary “Back to Dust,” is available on Brandon Maxwell’s website now.
A brief synopsis of the documentary by the brand is posted below:
"Every collection is a journey. For Brandon Maxwell SS 2019 all roads led to Marfa. Captured in Back to Dust, an intimate, self-published documentary, the designer and his core team travel to the small West Texas town famous for its art history and expansive landscape to find inspiration for their newest collection.
"Not restricting himself to the area’s cliches--Donald Judd, cowboys and cactuses--Maxwell returns to roots seeking out the local creatives, galleries and institutions that define the character of the enigmatic desert outpost. Through interviews with Marfa natives, his design team and friends, the documentary opens up a window into the intense incubation period that brings a fashion collection to fruition.
"While “Back to Dust” captures the percolations of the SS 2019 presentation, the film finds its center in Maxwell’s own meditations on his creative practice and evolution from artist to stylist to designer. The viewer watches this process first hand from the selection of reference images and soundtracks to the finalization of fabrics and key looks.
"The keystone to unlocking Maxwell’s most personal and perhaps formative collection yet, Back to Dust reveals the beginning of a much larger vision, one that extends beyond New York fashion week and into greater American culture. A kind of visual album in its own right, the film operates as the first step towards the big picture."
