Barton Perreira | Introducing the Limited-Edition ‘Cora’
by Sheila Pippin
LA eyewear maverick, Barton Perreira, has just released their new and first ever limited-edition frame, the Cora. Available in five stunning color ways (pink, ivory, blue, black, and leopard print), the latest design from the spectacle specialists needs to be experienced to be believed.
The Cora features Barton Perreira’s signature Japanese acetate alongside a striking corset design. Grosgrain silk ribbons are delicately interwoven with a 24K gold logo plated bead, which let the frames catch wind in the convertible, or accessorize one’s nape. With only 550 units made and sold worldwide, Flaunt considers itself The Chosen, and quickly spoke with Founder Patty Perreira on the unique drop.
How is this frame unlike any you've created before?
Born out of my love for renaissance fashion and inspired by a rebellious feminine spirit, the Cora is the first sunglass I have ever designed that has corseted temples, which feature interwoven grosgrain silk ribbons allowing the sunglass to drape around the neck. For me, it combines a bit of fantasy, romance, and nostalgia in newfound ways.
What was a challenge in Cora’s creation?
The greatest challenge was to discover a way to combine fashion and function seamlessly in a way that felt natural and not contrived. The design itself was also very difficult to manufacture. It was the first time that our factory produced a frame with this unique temple design. Their work had to be very precise. There are several steps... from shooting the core wire into the acetate, to inserting the 24kt gold plated grommets perfectly. Every measurement has to be exact and there is no room for error. The Japanese Craftsmen we work with are true artisans.
