JUST ONE EYE presents Arielle Pytka’s Archipelago Continuum, a solo exhibition of large-scale paintings inspired by her long travels at sea and island chains in South East Asia where she lived part-time for several years. As travel stalled at the height of the pandemic, Pytka sought escapism and exploration in her work, imagining places visited and places unknown.

Arielle Pytka wrapped in the old flag from her sailboat (the boat is Scottish, built by the famous William Fife III).

Speaking about the flag, Pytka shares, "It is one of the only things I have left to remember the boat, it even still smells like the boat. I can smell the salt and wood in the fabric and it immediately transports me to my old cabin and I am flooded with memories. It’s wonderful what emotions are stirred up by a familiar scent."

This imaginary new world is on view from February 15 - 22, 2022 at JUST ONE EYE’s next door pop-up gallery.
