Ananas Ananas is a food-art studio helmed by Verónica González and Elena Petrossian. The pair create edible instillations, highlighting temporal impermanence and thereby placing emphasis on mindful enjoyment in the moment. Their latest endeavour is Ananas Ananas Vol.1, the studio’s first inedible project. Instead, it’s a collection of sketches, notes and text messages which illustrate the artists’ creative process.

The duo created the book because they wanted something tangible; a permanent object to document their transient artwork. “The book is like a journal,” says Elena. “It has some recipes, some text messages between me and Veronica, funny stories—it’s like a diary, in a way.”

The book launched on Saturday, March 12 at the Dries Van Noten space in Los Angeles. The launch centred around an edible exhibit: “A homage to our cultural backgrounds,” explains Elena. “I’m Armenian and Verónica is Mexican. So we have lavash bread, which is Armenian, and we have Oaxaca cheese with hoja santa which is like this very earthy herb.” The launch reflected the interlinked cultural roots of Ananas Ananas.

Ananas Ananas Vol. 1 is available to purchase now—the only permanent archive of the duo’s work.
