The multidisciplinary artist Sunni Colón has come back with his second EP Satin Psicodelic. Recorded and configured on both coast of LA and NY as well as across the way to Paris. The album inhabits a draw of lush intimacy not unsimilar to his artwork which plays on textural spaces using light. This intersection of a sound and vision is why he has been lauded as Frank Ocean meets James Turrell. The 7 track EP boasts themes of self reflection, enigmatic beauty and all that discomforts of modern life, which was a perfect fit for falling into the soundtrack of anyone trying to figure out adulting. We grab a few questions with the artist to have him describe what visuals to keep in mind as we listened on.
Where do you draw inspiration from for your music?
I draw inspiration from a lot of different people and things including films, conversations, pretty much any form of experience. There are so many musical inspirations, but this morning i’ve been listening to Janet Jackson and Kamasi Washington
How would you describe your new EP, Satin Psicodelic?
Sincere, hallucinatory, self realization music. Musical therapy
If your music could paint a picture, what would it look like?
It depends on the day and song. The other day someone sent me a message to describe a visual representation of my music and it was an image of a guy sitting on grass in space looking at planets in the distant. I thought that was pretty cool, maybe the painting could resemble that.
Will you continue to create installation art, and if so what can we expect from you?
Yes, I’m in the process of creating my next installment now.
How would you define your sound?
I don't know really. I’d like to say it’s a sound that Alice Coltrane and Beyonce would enjoy.
You have the day off, and it’s a Sunday afternoon, where can we find you?
In bed or somewhere random outdoors.
