What's in yr fridge, Julia Govor?

by Emma Nicole

It has been said that Russian-born DJ Julia Govor was born to move people. If so, she has fulfilled her destiny, though she took an unusual path to get there. She got her start spinning cassettes at the local nightclub in her hometown in Abkhazia, which lead her to join the town’s highly popular military band, called Moryachka. Eventually Julia gave into the calling of the big city and made her way to Moscow, where she found herself balancing a career as an on-air personality for MTV and Miller TV while establishing a reputation as the badass, hypnotic, storytelling DJ that she is. Fast forward a few years and Julia is now based in New York and has officially taken her crown as the rightful heir of futuristic techno. Now that she's risen to the top, she's bringing her grooves to beat-hungry fans across the country, and you can get a taste for yourself at the upcoming Lightning In a Bottle festival, which will take place over Memorial Day weekend in Bradley, CA.

But first we have to ask: What’s in yr fridge, Julia?

There is no day without music. I am very lucky - our East Village neighbors love electronic music. So I can make a rave in my little apartment.

I have the best husband in the world! After my tour I always get fresh flowers, he shows me how to take care our plants, how to play chess and also how to pick the right books for an inspiration.

This wall is reminds me of the work I have done. I am so happy to release my music and especially on vinyl only labels. “Open Possibility” EP with remixes of Ricardo Villalobos and Kamran Sadeghi is one of my dream which came true!

Iyengara yoga and running are my good habits. I managed to learn how to practice at home, but sometimes this NYC view won't let me focus.

This is my drum machine! I got it as a gift. Last October I met Dave Smith and after meeting him I looked at this instrument a bit different.  The machine has soul. Important part of my production.
