Poolaroids with LA Models

by Flaunt Staff

For LA Models, the grind never stops. This summer the supermodels in training participate in a summer camp at Sherman Oaks where they learn about social media and hone their skills at everything from catwalks to photo shoots. After having to constantly bring the heat, these models take a well-deserved cool down by the poolside as we ask them the questions you've been dying to ask.

Follow @flauntmagazine to keep up with our Poolaroid series which will feature the various models for our casting sessions.

JACQUELINE GHOSH

What’s your favorite thing about being a model?

My favorite part about modeling is meeting all of the amazingly talented and creative people on shoots and jobs. I’m very creatively inclined, so having the opportunity to be part of someone’s creative vision, whether they are a makeup artist, hairdresser, photographer or creative director, is a true honor, as well as a glimpse into the world of creativity that I absolutely love.

What model do you most look up to?

The model I most idolize is Zendaya. Not only is she a stunning model, talented actress, singer, dancer, fashion designer, and fashion icon, but she is also an activist. She has the ability to empower women to love their bodies and skin color; all the while remaining humble and close to her family despite her incredible success.

Who's your fav designer?

My current favorite label is Gucci. My mom has always been the most influential fashion figure in my life, so I have inherited her internal love for Gucci. Every single thing they produce, from handbags to editorials, embodies creativity and originality; two factors that I think most brands lack nowadays.

What current trend do you hate?

I really hate the extreme notion of plastic surgery that social media has propagated. Plastic surgery is an amazing tool that can help people become more self-confident. But when that tool is abused and the images of women who have altered their body beyond the point of recognition become the ideal standard of beauty, it’s truly infuriating. It’s as if we are teaching people that instead of recognizing beauty in yourself, that you can fix all of your insecurities by going under the knife.

What do you do, when you're not modeling?

When I’m not modeling, I’m very involved in school, sports and arts. I spend most of my weekends painting, drawing, doing graphic design, and working tirelessly to maintain a 4.0 GPA which is very important to me. I am currently the art director for our school’s student-run publication and director of media and technology for the student government which involves creating all of the graphic design we need to market dances, sports games, etc. As for sports, I’ve been involved with track for about five years, competing in the hurdles, high and triple jump, discus, and I’ve been recently picking up pole vault as well.

JULIA BHANSALI

What’s your favorite thing about being a model?

My favorite thing about being a model is the awesome experiences you get to have and the incredible people you get to meet and work with. Modeling enables you to travel to interesting places, gain real life experience at a young age, and acquire many relationships and life-long friendships. Since I started modeling I can certainly say that I have come out of my shell tremendously and grown as a person. I have learned so much about myself and about life and I have made some pretty unforgettable memories in the process.

What current trend do you hate?

A current trend that I am not a huge fan of is the recent unicorn craze. Unicorn flavored everything has taken the internet by storm- unicorn coffee, unicorn cake, unicorn bagels, unicorn burritos, even unicorn grilled cheese! While it is dazzling and colorful, I personally believe it is somewhat impractical and that it is just an excuse to load foods full of sugar, not to mention the tons of artificial colors and flavoring as well as the outrageous prices. Initially, I was intrigued by it, but now I think something needs to be done before the whole universe is painted with glitter and covered in sprinkles.

What do you do, when you're not modeling?

When I'm not modeling I love to get my creative juices flowing. I've always had a passion for photography and videography and I enjoy creating films and taking pictures. Music has also always played a huge part in my life. I have been playing the piano since I was five years old and I started playing the guitar and ukulele when I was thirteen. I love to sing, which led me to join my school's competitive show choir, and it has been such a wonderful group to be a part of. I also write songs and recently I finished my first E.P. I have always dreamed of sharing my music with the world!

What do you like the most about LA?

I absolutely love Los Angelos. One of my favorite parts about LA is the diversity. There are so many different types of people with so many different cultures, backgrounds, and stories. I think it's so cool that you can go anywhere and almost everyone you talk to is from somewhere else. Hearing each person's unique story is truly something special. It really helps you appreciate other people and celebrate your differences. That's why I always make it a point to ask people where they are from because if you really take the time to listen, you can end up learning a lot more than you would think. Knowing where a person comes from enables you to truly understand why they are where they are and gives you the insight to grasp who they are.

How do you stay in shape?

I love to get creative with my fitness routine, constantly changing things up and keeping my body guessing! Sometimes I will go for a hike, walk, or jog because I absolutely love to be outdoors. Other times I will work up a sweat indoors and join in on an exercise class. My favorites are yoga, pilates, Zumba, and kickboxing. I strive to work out or get some kind of exercise at least five to six days a week and try to make smart decisions with my food choices, fueling my body with whole, healthful foods. Although, sometimes life happens and things don't always go according to plan, but I do my best to not beat myself up over mistakes and to keep moving forward. I have learned, in the end, life is too short to not treat yourself to pizza every once in a while because you deserve it!

ERICA HONING

How did you decide to become a model?

I did modeling for dancewear when I was younger and after a while I wanted to sign with an agency. When I was 14 I went to an open call for Ford Robert Black Agency in Arizona. After that I signed with them and later LA Models. Ever since it's been a dream come true signing with both of them!
