Poolaroids with Ford Models

by flaunt

A heat wave breaks on L.A., but Flaunt knows where to beat it: the shady, paradisiacal pool the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. Luckily for us, business is often intertwined with pleasure. This is especially true during our ongoing poolside model casting sessions, this week featuring a lovely bunch of fresh faces from Ford Models.

While the best way to catch them is by following @flauntmagazine on Instagram, we don't leave our beloved regular web readers out in the car. Hence, Poolaroids. Plus you get to read the model's answers to our cheeky questions below, and we all know that personality is what counts. Stay cool.

What are you listening to?

I am listening to “Back door man” by Howlin Wolf.

What do you do when you're not modeling?

When I am not modeling I ride my skateboard and motorcycle or designing graphics on photoshop.  Skateboard for: Element Skateboards, RVCA Apparel, Spank Grip Tape, Roadhouse Gallery.  Work at RVCA Apparel brand as a graphic designer and assist a professional photographer in LA (working behind the camera as a photographer’s assistant and in front of the camera as a FORD model and skateboarder)

Where would you take someone who is in LA for the first time?

I would take someone who is new to LA to The Last Book Store on Spring street.

Skate, photo shoot, art, guitar by the fire.

Giles McLeod

What are you listening to?

My favorite albums right now are “99.9%” by Kaytranada and “Its Album Time” by Todd Terje.

What do you do when you're not modeling?

When I’m not modeling I am usually making music with friends.  A lot of my friends happen to be really great musicians, (check out ‘mumbar’ and ‘parkinglotmusic’ on SoundCloud,) and over the last two years it has been what we fill most of our time with.

What are your top 3 IG accounts you follow?

Okay, first off, everyone needs to follow @natgeo.  Natgeo should have more followers than any celebrity, model, musician etc. because the shit that they post is so buck wild.  Secondly, everyone should follow the rapper The Game, his tag is @losangelesconfidential.  I follow the Game because everyday he posts hilarious, kind of corny inspiring posts, but he gets so wild with his hashtag game.  He has no fear.  Lastly, Eric Andre.

What is your guilty pleasure?

Well, I found myself listening to Satisfaction by Benny Benassi the other day.  So there’s that.  Also the anime show “Toriko”; -- Don’t really watch anime but this is the wildest show in the game.

What emoji do you use most frequently?

The alligator emoji because it has the least amount of real world application.  It’s so funny.  Why would you ever need to use that emoji?  You wouldn’t.  So I use it a ton.  It’s a movement.

What are you listening to?

I listen half of the time to Russian Rap.  Artists such as: Basta, Guf, Slim. Another part of the time, I listen American Old School Rap. Artists such as: Nas, Eminem, 2pac, 50cent.  I also enjoy listening to Classical music, on radio station KUSC.

What do you do when you're not modeling?

I work for a car service company called Lyft for extra cash, also I produce russian hiphop music and on the 1st of June I released my first album.  I have a few apartments listed with Airbnb.com that I manage as my small growing business.

What’s your favorite thing about being a model?

My favorite thing is all the connections and contacts I’m introduced to along with my team @fordmodels, which play important role in my life.  I’ve also met a lot of models who have become my friends including photographers, stylists, makeup artists with whom I’m still in touch with.

What emoji do you use most frequently?

❤  I try to use only positive emoji.

What’s the hardest part about being a model?

You always have to be available with an open schedule because castings and photoshoots can come out at any time, But I consider it funny and prefer this style of life because it’s not boring.

Cal Oaks

What’s your favorite thing about being a model?

It gives me time to focus on my personal art, but I also see it as an extension of my art in the tradition of Warhol Superstars (Lou Reed, Hopper, Candy, etc.) - celebrating the wonder and drive of the created human.  I’ve also been fortunate to run into some genuine folks in this process that I’m happy to call ‘friends’.

What are your top 3 IG accounts you follow?

@theeteenaged @ausencia_la @ my mom

What model do you most look up to?

Probably more keen on looking up to icons of film, like Alain Delon.  Why wouldn’t I?  He graced the cover of “The Queen is Dead” for crying out loud.

What do you like the most about LA?

The diverse culture and the ocean that seems to constantly push and pull that culture - giving it the liveliest pulse on the planet.

Tell me something interesting about the city you’re from.

I was born and raised in Knoxville Tennessee.  I think it’s interesting how genuine people are from the south.  Didn’t realize that until I moved to LA last summer.  “The South” is capitalized.  Perhaps you could rather say, “Born and raised in Knoxville, TN.  People are genuine there.  I didn’t realize that until I moved here.  Aside from that, what isn’t interesting about it?  Snake-handling, churches, Dollywood, The Sunsphere, The Body Farm...I could go on and on.  You loathe it when you are there, but you long for that strangeness when you are gone.
